The Lecturer will be required to teach, undertake research and publish in the area of Spanish linguistics and/or Applied linguistics. The appointee will promote the School and maintain links and partnerships with relevant academic, industry and professional communities. The appointee will make an independent contribution to the School?s teaching, research, and program development.
SELECTION CRITERIA ESSENTIAL
Qualifications:
PhD in a relevant field (or equivalent) or significant progression towards a PhD. Experience, Knowledge and Skills
Teaching:
Ability to develop curricula and resources that reflect an understanding of the Spanish language and culture.
Ability to contribute effectively to the Faculty’s language teaching programs in a manner that influences, motivates, and inspires students to learn.
Ability to develop and administer assessment regimes and provide feedback that fosters independent learning.
Research:
Ability to present research seminars and publish in reputed international journals.
Capacity to supervise research students in Spanish language and linguistics.
Proven research activity in the area of Spanish language and culture, including a sound record in publishing in highly ranked academic journals.
Other:
Ability to contribute to the development and maintenance of partnerships with professional associations and) with domestic educational institutions (and industry).

Salary: Lecturer Grade F: £32,267 – £36,298
Lecturer Grade G: £37,382 – £44,607 (with potential progression to £50,186)
You will have embarked on a research trajectory with outstanding potential, have native or near-native competence in Spanish and English, and experience of teaching Hispanic studies at undergraduate level.
In addition to contributing to our core curriculum in Spanish language you will teach research-informed modules in your area of specialization and be prepared to participate in modules taught jointly with staff members from other sections in the School (e.g. German or French Studies). You may also contribute, as appropriate, to School and/or Faculty postgraduate programmes.
You will become part of a team working closely together to deliver high-quality teaching in the multi-disciplinary and multi-language environment of the School of Modern Languages. While applications from all areas of Hispanic Studies are welcome, preference will be given, all things being equal, to the area of Spanish and/or Latin American film.

Required from 1 September 2013 to contribute to the delivery of Spanish language teaching within the School of Languages and Area Studies. Applicants will be expected to have proven experience of teaching Spanish language to adult learners, preferably at University level. Experience of teaching MFL is essential.
The successful candidates should have a relevant first degree, a relevant MA completed or nearing completion or PhD.
