Role Summary
The GDC Level I Technician will be responsible for projects and tasks related, but not limited to, ship and shore network, voice infrastructure and SCPC & TDMA products. The GDC Level I Technician will support upgrades and new commissioning. The technician will have routine interaction with customers aboard ships at sea or various remote locations, including customer headquarter personnel. The GDC Technician may be deployed to upgrade or install network/satellite systems onboard cruise and commercial vessels, energy vessel, private super yachts, government facilities or business enterprises all over the world.
Key Responsibilities:
- Configures and test devices not limited to satellite modems, routers, switches, laptops, PC’s and servers with various operating systems (Windows, Linux, etc…).
- Creates diagrams, whitepapers, and training materials to document networks and products.
- Maintains the department’s wiki which includes troubleshooting procedures, policies, knowledgebase etc.
- Troubleshoot a satellite link to find and fix problems.
- Supports/Performs field installations of data and voice equipment including routers, modems, switches, computers or any other telecommunication/company related equipment.
- May be required to cover shifts in the early morning or late night hours.
- May be required to be available to travel at a moment’s notice
- Other responsibilities as may be assigned.
Key Authorities:
- This position reports to the GDC Director
- Interacts with: Internal – Engineers, Senior Technicians, Project Managers and Solution Architects
- External – customer (technical data contacts), equipment vendors.
- Qualifications/Experience
- Technical school graduate or Associates degree in related technical field
- Knowledge of VoIP, WANand Satellite preferred
- CCNA certification a plus
- Strong written and oral communication skills desired
