The Department of Language and Linguistics is seeking to appoint a Lecturer to direct, teach and develop the Spanish pathway of our MA Translation, Interpreting and Subtitling, and to contribute to practical Spanish language teaching to undergraduate students at different levels of proficiency.
The duties will include the preparation, teaching and assessment of classes in Spanish language and Spanish-English translation, interpreting and subtitling. The person appointed will direct the MA Translation, Interpreting and Subtitling (Spanish-English pathway), provide leadership in the development of the interpreting strand of this MA more generally, and will participate in the successful administration of the Department of Language and Linguistics.
The successful candidate will have a post-graduate qualification in a relevant area, high-level proficiency in Spanish and English, experience in language teaching, and have demonstrable recent professional experience of interpreting/translation work.
This post is permanent, starting on or as soon as possible after 1 August 2013.

General Duties & Responsibilities: Position #1: For Tenure Track:
1. Teach both lower and upper division Spanish courses (24 credit hours per year).
2. Take part in advising, curriculum development and activities that target student recruitment and retention.
3. Serve on departmental and college committees.
4. Conduct research.
Position #2: For Non-Tenure Track:
1. Teach both lower and upper division Spanish courses (30 credit hours per year).
2. Take part in advising, curriculum development and activities that target student recruitment and retention.
3. Serve on departmental and college committees.
Qualifications:
For Tenure Track:
1. Ph.D. in hand by August 2013.
2. Demonstrated potential for research and scholarship.
3. Record of and a commitment to teaching excellence.
4. Generalist with a specialization in any area of Latin American or Peninsular literature and/or culture.
5. Native or near native fluency in Spanish and fluency in English.
For Non-Tenure Track:
1. M.A. or ABD required.
2. Record of and a commitment to teaching excellence.
3. Generalist with a specialization in any area of Latin American or Peninsular literature and/or culture.
4. Native or near native fluency in Spanish and fluency in English.
In accordance with Utah State Code 53A-3-410, appointment to this position is contingent upon the successful passing of a background check.
Work Hours:
For Tenure Track: 24 credit hours per year
For Non-Tenure Track: 30 credit hours per year
Salary or Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications & experience; excellent benefits.
