Description of position:
Western Oregon University announces an opening for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Spanish to begin in September 2013. This is a 9-month position. We seek candidates dedicated to undergraduate teaching who will complement the strengths of the current faculty. Main field of interest: Peninsular Spanish, 20th and 21st Centuries. Preferred applicants will be able to also offer courses in one or more of the following areas: Spanish for Heritage Speakers, Spanish for the Professions (medical, law enforcement, and business), Peninsular Spanish (19th Century) and film. Experience in Second Language Acquisition will be a plus. Teaching responsibilities will include all levels of Spanish language as well as content within the candidate’s area of specialty. The Spanish program fills a very central role at WOU because of the large Mexican/Chicano population in the Willamette Valley. Qualifications:
Doctoral degree in Spanish or related field must be completed by August 2013. Evidence for (1) successful undergraduate teaching of the Spanish language and (2) commitment to scholarship is essential. A native or near-native command of both Spanish and English is required.
