The European Commission is encouraging European enterprises to penetrate the Japanese market. To this end it has put in place various promotional activities to further European exports to Japan and to maximise business opportunities there.
The EU-Japan Centre for Industrial Co-operation, which was established in Tokyo in 1987 and in Brussels in 1996, organises:
Training programmes for EU managers (4/5 weeks):
- Japan Industry Insight HRTP (13 May to 7 June 2013 or 14 June 2013) – provides an integrated in-depth view of Japanese industrial structure and business practices. It is targeted at managers who have a major role in defining and implementing their companys policies in relation to Japan, or who are to be transferred to Japan, or who wish to be kept informed about management practices in Japan.
Deadline: 12 February 2013 - World Class Manufacturing – for EU managers and for EU senior executives – to assist EU companies to acquire a better understanding of how Japanese companies continually take costs out of their manufacturing, constantly innovating using «KAIZEN» manufacturing methods (continuous improvement), «JIT» (Just in Time), «TQC» (Total Quality Control) and «TQM» (Total Quality Management) practices.
Deadline: 7 June 2012 (15/10/2012 – 19/10/2012), 21 March 2013 (24/06/2013 – 28/06/2013), 10 June 2013 (14/10/2013 – 18/10/2013). - Innovation Made in Japan (to be announced) – to understand how innovative Japanese companies are successful at converting applied research into innovative custom solutions that meet the needs of the IT-driven society. - Meet Asia in Japan (ICT) – to analyse the scenarios for economic recovery in Asia and discover the new opportunities generated by the crisis in the area. (to be confirmed);
- Distribution and Business Practices – to provide the participants with an insight into how products from the different sectors arrive on the market in Japan.
- Foreign Direct Investment in Japan – Short Course on Invest in Japan for senior executives working in EU firms with a strategic interest in establishing a presence in Japan
Target participants are:
- managers from industrial companies;
- minimum of 5 to 10 years of professional experience in industry
- good knowledge of English
- be nationals of an EU Member State.
They must be presented by their employer and be able to guarantee their attendance for the entire programme.The EU-Japan Centre covers all costs directly related to the programme (i.e.conferences, seminars and transportation costs during group field trips). The participant’s company is expected to cover the participant’s travel costs to and from Japan as well as living expenses in Japan (including accommodation).
